When you massage your baby, you also help to release the hormone oxytocin in the baby, which regulates the cortisol or stress levels. This means that massage can help relax your baby which in turn can help to reduce ‘fussiness’ and periods of crying so really help to aid sleep – welcome news for sleep deprived parents!

As well as the massive benefits for a baby, there are also many benefits for the mother:

-      Infant massage can really help with bonding, giving us           that precious one-to-one, skin-to-skin contact that is               vital both for bonding and reducing our own stress                 levels, making it a great way to connect and get to
      know your baby

 -    The hormone Oxytocin, which is already being                        produced in the baby when he or she is being
massaged, is simultaneously produced in the person
giving the massage also giving them that nice ‘happy
feel good’ feeling which can help alleviate the
      effects of postnatal depression

-     Another important benefit for new mums is that baby             massage can help with breastfeeding. As well as
producing ‘happy’ hormones, infant massage also
stimulates the hormone Prolactin in mothers, which               helps with lactation.

BabyGROW Massage Course

This is a popular four week course that is designed with new mums and dads in mind. It is suitable for babies from 6 weeks to 6 months of age (up to crawling).

In a friendly, relaxed environment you will learn how to massage your baby using Indian and Swedish techniques as well as incorporating Chinese reflexology and yoga.

With the baby massage routines that you learn during the course you will be able to develop and practice them at home with your little one and can build it in to part of your daily/night time routine.  You will be delighted to hear that baby massage really helps to induce sleep, making it a perfect activity to incorporate into your baby’s bed time routine. Massaging after bath time is a great way to make sure the creases are dry and moisturised, which in turn with help prevent skin problems. Alternatively you can do it instead of a bath as is really not essential for your baby to have a bath every single day, in fact it can be very drying to baby's skin especially if they are prone to eczema. A nice 10-15 minute massage with oil can do the job of cleaning and moisturising in one go.  Whatever your routine, baby massage will help relax and calm your baby ready for bed.

Each week we concentrate on a different area of the body whilst re-capping over other areas that you have already learnt so that you learn a variety of routines and have lots of fun along the way.

What’s included?

The course runs for 4 weeks, each class lasts approximately 50 minutes. The cost of the four week course is £40.

During the course you will be given a handy booklet with all the relevant strokes and movements and a small bottle of massage oil, both of these are yours to take home and keep.

As well as giving you the chance to meet like-minded mums in a relaxing atmosphere once the class finishes there will be about half an hour to enjoy a cup of tea and piece of cake where I will be on hand to offer support and advice on other baby related topics such as: Sleep Problems, Breastfeeding issues, Weaning etc.

Four week courses run every month and 1-on-1 home visit sessions are available by request.

Next course is starting on Monday 15th February

BabyGROW Massage Course Vouchers are also available and valid for 6 months
making a fantastic present for any new mum or mum to be.
